Message from Command Pilot Mike Singer for members interested in the aviation program:

For those of you interested in the Air Aux Operations you will need to complete the following tasks at the USCG-Aux websites after you have completed & have passed the SF86 Security check:

Become familiar with the Non-Pilot Crew Positions http://www.auxodept.org/airoperations.htm

  1. Observer
  2. Air Crew
  1. Study the Auxiliary Aviation Training Manual http://www.cgaux.info/g_ocx/publications/comdtinst/M16798.5B.pdf
  2. Take and pass the online open book exam Air Pilot/Air Observer Exam (Test A)
  3. Complete the FEMA ICS (Incident Command System) courses. http://cgauxsurfaceops.us/ICS.htm
  4. Upon passing the exam you can begin flight observation training.

It seems like an insurmountable sum total of stuff to accomplish, but once you have completed the tasks it will open up doors.  It’s a great way to travel and see the islands while you’re performing missions for the USCG
